Sculpture and Collections Preparator
The DeCordova Sculpture Park + Museum seeks an experienced full-time preparator for a one year contract position, with benefits. The Sculpture and Collections Preparator, reporting to the Museum Registrar, is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all art in the Sculpture Park.
The S&C Preparator is also responsible for the permanent collection, including its care, preparation, transport, framing, and other tasks as assigned by the Registrar. The S&C Preparator works closely with the Registrar, Curators, Educators, Exhibitions Preparator, artists, contractors and others.
Qualifications
- B.A. or B.F.A. and five years appropriate experience
- Manual skills and knowledge of trades
- Experience overseeing the rigging and installation of large scale outdoor sculpture
- Familiarity with museum standards for handling and installing works of art
- Knowledge of archival framing and matting techniques
- Ability to effectively plan, communicate, and coordinate installations with the registrar, curators, artists and tradesmen
- Ability to solicit, evaluate, and engage high-quality outside contractors and firms for projects and communicate museum requirements and standards effectively
- Must be organized as well as flexible, and able to be self-directed in prioritizing tasks and work
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team work required

Curatorial Internship - Fall 2010
Curatorial Interns at deCordova engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities as they participate in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art museum and sculpture park. Interns work closely with staff curators and the registrar, and help to install exhibitions, update collection files, maintain records, organize daily office operations, and conduct art historical research related to exhibitions and the permanent collection, which, at times, can include studio visits with artists.
Interns are integral to the success of the curatorial department and as such, they are fully integrated into the work environment. Interns observe and participate in a variety of department and inter-department brainstorming and organization meetings and learn the structural, strategic, and operational decisions at play in a contemporary art institution.
Specific responsibilities for the fall 2010 semester will tentatively include, but are not limited to, work on publication logistics for brochures to accompany upcoming PLATFORM series exhibitions, research and logistical planning and implementation for the winter 2011 exhibition of well-known Boston conceptual artist Rachel Perry Welty, work on upcoming Sculpture Park installations and related projects, and logistics management for the fall exhibition of work by esteemed sculptor Leonardo Drew.
The curatorial staff at deCordova seeks a self-motivated art history upper level undergraduate or graduate student with specific interest in contemporary art and future career goals to work as a curator in a contemporary art museum. Applicants should have strong organizational abilities and computer skills, including literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite and scanning and image software. Prospective applicants should be aware that the Curatorial Internship is an unpaid, volunteer position and because public transportation does not service deCordova, a car is a must. The Curatorial Intern must commit a minimum of two, eight-hour days per week for the agreed upon duration of the internship, which typically lasts for four months.

Interpretation Internship
DeCordova's Curatorial Department is seeking enthusiastic, motivated graduate or college (juniors and seniors only) students for assistance in researching and developing exhibition-related programming. Responsibilities will vary, but may include: researching artists and exhibition-related content, assisting in the development and installation of the Museum's educational Process Gallery, assisting in Museum Guide exhibition training, collecting and editing audio content for cell phone tours, and day-to-day operations. Interns will report to the Curatorial Educator.
Qualifications include: strong organizational and computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a sense of humor. Prospective applicants should be aware that these are unpaid volunteer positions and that no public transportation serves DeCordova Sculpture Park + Museum: a car is a must. Position Summary:
This position provides operational support for the Development Office and administrative support to the Director of External Affairs who serves as DeCordova's chief development officer. The Development Coordinator is responsible for gift processing, data entry and database management for Development. The Coordinator assists in implementing the annual appeal for philanthropic support. She/he is responsible for drafting stewardship correspondence and prospect research. This position coordinates meetings and major gift cultivation event planning. She/he is responsible for coordinating communications for the director of EA other senior staff, and Museum leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Director of External Affairs calendar: schedule meetings, prospect visits, make travel arrangements and provide administrative support for the DEA including accounts payable/receivable as relates to the EA department; provide monthly reconciliation with Accounting;
- Conduct timely and accurate recording of all gifts to the Museum;
- Maintain and update donor and prospect files;
- Conduct prospect research using electronic resources and data-mining tools;
- Record gifts, create receipts, and write donor acknowledgments and stewardship correspondence;
- Coordinate with the Director's office for special acknowledgement of donors when appropriate; send pledge reminders;
- Draft donor letters, appeals, and invitations as assigned
- Create mailing lists, mail merges, and process bulk mailings as needed
- Serve as administrative contact to Finance regarding gift processing and reconciliation to general ledger
- Provide weekly, monthly and annual gift progress reports for the DEA, Finance, and other reports as appropriate;
- Serve as point-of-contact for project calendars and project management;
- Plan and support cultivation and stewardship events;
- Schedule and coordinate intra- and inter-departmental meetings;
- Provide administrative support to the Director of External Affairs for Development and Nominating Committees, including sending agendas and reminders, taking minutes, and distributing notes and follow-up lists;
This position may require additional evening, weekend, and early morning hours in support of department events and meetings.

Jewelry Instructor
Description:
The deCordova Museum School is seeking a Jewelry instructor that can teach adults of all levels of abilities for evening classes. The jewelry instructor will report directly to the School Director, who oversees the Museum School, and School Gallery. Evening classes are held from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. The jewelry instructor candidate must be available for Tuesday and Thursday evenings for the summer term, and available one evening a week for the fall term.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience is required, and MFA is preferred. Candidates must also be an active exhibitor in the visual arts.

Education Programs Intern — Spring/Summer 2010
The Education Programs Intern works to develop, administer, implement, and maintain educational programs within a sculpture park and contemporary art museum. Intern will work with a variety of audiences, including students, youth, teens, families, faculty, and artists. Intern will assist with the summer youth art program, monthly family programs, activity kit development, Sculpture Park programming, classroom and supplies maintenance, and various day-to-day operations.
Intern will work closely with the Acting Director of Education and Education Assistant. Seeking self-motivated candidates pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees in Art Education, Studio Art, Art History, Museum Education, or Museum Studies programs. Intern candidates must enjoy working with youth and have strong organizational, written, verbal, and computer skills. Education Coordinator Intern – Summer 2010
DeCordova's Education Department is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual for assistance in tour and guide scheduling, class registration support, and various administrative tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in museum education, to gain hands on experience while observing programs and initiatives that take place in an education environment.
Responsibilities:

Museum Security Officer
About the Visitor Services Department:
The Museum Security Officer is a member of the Visitor Service Department - a collaborative, energetic group of peers. Visitor Services plays a key role in the museum by ensuring that the visitors' first and last impression of their experience is a positive one, through providing excellent service, information and communications.
Position Summary
The MSO is generally responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the museum's artwork and collections, galleries, facilities, sculpture park, visitors, and staff. This is a highly visible, front-line position with much visitor and staff interface. The MSO maintains standing or walking patrol and is responsible for monitoring galleries, and public and non-public spaces throughout the museum; and for enforcing compliance at all levels with established safety and security policies. The MSO is additionally charged with providing information to and assisting visitors, preventing and/or reporting irregular or unauthorized situations, maintaining visitor traffic flow as necessary during events/public programs, and assisting with a variety of daily operations activities as assigned by the Director of Visitor Services, including some light physical labor. The MSO willl be trained to carry out the museum's emergency protocol, and to assist in evacuations or shut down of the Museum as necessary.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Arrive at work on time, prepared and with a professional dress and presentation
- Carry-out opening and closing of the museum building according to security protocol. Responsible for turning on/off lights, unlocking interior and exterior doors and windows, and securing at closing; monitoring climate control; set up of process gallery, scanning galleries/artwork, and reporting any concerns encountered during procedures
- Enforce security and safety rules and regulations; monitor galleries and public spaces (specifically: ensure that all artwork is secure, is not touched or photographed, and that there is no food, wet, or potentially damaging objects in the galleries)
- Assist visitors by providing information, directions, and accessibility support
- Assist with managing traffic and flow of visitors and groups in the galleries and during programs and events
- Respond to situations you observe, or those reported by staff or visitors
- Admit deliveries and vendors and other outside people to secure/closed areas of the museum as appropriate
- Keep Manager informed of record incidence reports, security concerns, and maintenance or exhibit issues in the specified log
- Courier daily mail container and other items as needed; and fulfill miscellaneous tasks on an as needed basis, as requested by Director of Visitor Services
Qualifications:
- Security or customer service experience preferred
- Ability to follow security procedures and enforce related policy
- Capable of working with a minimum of supervision, and taking responsibility during an emergency situation
- Able to stay on feet and circulate throughout six-level space; and handle light physical labor as circumstances require
- Posses sound judgment and problem solving skills; be highly observant; and have excellent tact, communication, and customer service skills
